Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated is a Historically Black Greek Letter Organization. Zeta Phi Beta was founded January 16, 1920, by five collegiate women on the campus of Howard University. The sorority’s founding principles are Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, Beta Beta Zeta Chapter, was chartered on September 8, 1940, by 11 college educated women who saw the need to improve the Richland County community by fostering ideals of the sorority. Beta Beta Zeta Chapter has remained a positive force in the community and is affectionally known as the “Columbia Zetas.” The chapter members mentor and advise three local collegiate chapters: Lambda Chapter (Allen University), Kappa Beta Chapter (Benedict College) and Psi Eta Chapter (University of South Carolina).
Beta Beta Zeta Chapter is an award-winning chapter within the state. In 2023 and 2024, the chapter was recognized for being a Model Chapter. Beta Beta Zeta Chapter was also recognized for being the number one fundraising
chapter for the 2023 March for Babies campaign in the state and received a second-place award in the Southeastern Region for community service. The Columbia Zetas are on the move in the Columbia area, fostering relationships with organizations such as; New Ebenezer Baptist Church, Trinity Church, Sister Care, the Department of Juvenile Justice, the Ronald McDonald House, Transitions SC, C.A. Johnson High School, W. A. Perry Middle School and the Columbia Veterans Administration Medical Center – the list goes on.
Currently, the Columbia Zetas are seeking women who demonstrate a commitment to community service, scholarship, sisterhood and finer womanhood and who meet the requirements for membership.
