W.J. Keenan High School freshman Faith Beckett has been selected to attend the South Carolina Governor’s School for Agriculture at John de la Howe. The school, located in McCormick, is the only residential public high school in the United States that is devoted to agricultural education.
Faith is in the agriculture program at W.J. Keenan. Starting in the fall, she will attend the South Carolina Governor’s School for Agriculture, where she will stay until high school graduation.
South Carolina Governor’s School for Agriculture focuses on providing a unique and challenging agricultural education program. It allows students to
receive hands-on training in agriculture, agribusiness, forestry, land management, food science and more. To be considered for enrollment, applicants must have at least a 2.7 GPA on the weighted scale.
“When I was selected to the Governor’s School for Agriculture, I was really excited. I didn’t think it was going to be a reality, but now that it’s here, I’m like ‘Wow. It happened,’” Faith said.
Faith says she hopes to have a job working with animals after graduating from high school and college.
“Because the school is centered around agriculture, it’ll help me by surrounding me in agriculture and it’ll be a core focus,” Faith said.
