  • Rebuilding Trust: Walker says that trust between law enforcement and the community has eroded. He aims to rebuild that trust by transparent communication, accountability, and collaborative efforts. “We’ve lost that,” he lamented, “and that’s one of the driving forces behind my candidacy.”

Youth Programs and After-School Activities

Walker also expressed concern about young people lacking constructive activities after school and during the summer. He noted that existing programs have been insufficient or closed down. His proposals include:

  • Expanded Programs: Walker aims to create and expand after-school and summer programs. These could include sports teams (such as baseball), mentorship opportunities, and scouting troops. “Keeping young minds engaged and active is essential for their development and safety,” he said.

  • Community Involvement: Walker envisions police officers actively participating in community events, interacting with youth, and fostering positive relationships. By being present and accessible, law enforcement can contribute to a safer environment.

As the election approaches, Jim Walker’s commitment to change, safety, and community well-being remains at the forefront. In November, voters will decide whether his vision aligns with their aspirations.

“I’m a Black father just like anybody else,” said Walker. “I have three children of my own, and I’m concerned about their safety. I’m also concerned about the other children’s safety in my community and in my county. I feel that we as a community are not holding the individual that’s running our department accountable.”
