Voorhees University student Ashanti D. Wright awarded 2024 SC TRIO Lottie B. Gibson Scholarship

Voorhees University is proud to announce that Miss Ashanti D. Wright, a senior majoring in Child Development and a member of the TRIO Student Support Services Program, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 SC TRIO Lottie B. Gibson Scholarship. This award recognizes her academic excellence, leadership, and dedication to her educational and community service goals.

The SC TRIO Lottie B. Gibson Scholarship is one of three scholarships sponsored annually by SC TRIO. Named in honor of Lottie B. Gibson, a trailblazer in educational advocacy, the scholarship highlights the achievements of TRIO students who exemplify leadership in their schools and communities while maintaining a steadfast commitment to completing their undergraduate degrees.

Ashanti, a past Vice President of the TRIO Student Support Services Program, has consistently demonstrated a passion for child development and community engagement. Her accomplishments reflect the mission of Voorhees University and the TRIO Program—to empower students to reach their full potential academically, personally, and professionally.

Lynda Jefferson, TRIO Director at Voorhees University, shared her pride in Ashanti’s achievement, stating, “Ashanti’s commitment to excellence and her unwavering drive to succeed are an inspiration to her peers and our TRIO family. She embodies the spirit of this scholarship, and we are delighted to celebrate this milestone in her journey.”

Voorhees University President, Dr. Hopkins, echoed these sentiments, adding, “This recognition of Ashanti’s dedication and hard work underscores the transformative power of education and the importance of programs like TRIO in supporting student success. We are immensely proud of her accomplishments.”

Ashanti’s achievement is a testament to her perseverance and the support provided by Voorhees University’s TRIO Student Support Services Program. The university continues to champion academic excellence and leadership development through its comprehensive support programs.

About TRIO: TRIO is a program that helps motivate and inform low-income, firstgeneration college students and/or students with disabilities to utilize services to assist and prepare them through graduation and enhance their preparation for the job market.
