Voorhees University signs Global MoU with Salale University and EPI Center

In a significant step toward expanding its international presence and reinforcing its commitment to global academic collaboration, Voorhees University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Salale University in Ethiopia and the Center of Excellence for Educator Preparation and Innovation (EPI Center). This trilateral agreement establishes a dynamic partnership focused on advancing innovation, equity, and excellence in higher education across borders.

The signing ceremony, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was a momentous occasion characterized by optimism, a shared vision, and mutual respect. It brought together key institutional leaders and partners who have worked diligently to lay the foundation for this impactful collaboration.

Voorhees University President Dr. Ronnie Hopkins delivered remarks emphasizing the historic nature of the partnership. Reflecting on Voorhees’ enduring mission since its founding in 1897, Dr. Hopkins highlighted the university’s dedication to creating transformative educational experiences rooted in access, service, and global engagement.

“This MoU not only symbolizes a bridge between

continents but affirms our shared belief in the power of education to uplift communities, advance knowledge, and inspire future generations,” said Dr. Hopkins. “Through this partnership, Voorhees University deepens its investment in global impact and marks a new chapter in its international engagement strategy.”

Representing the Center of Excellence for Educator Preparation and Innovation, Dr. Gwenda Greene underscored the Center’s strategic role in building effective educator pipelines and advancing teacher preparation models that address both local and global needs.

The leadership of Salale University, including President Dr. Feyera Dinsa, Vice President Dr. Tolosa Dadi, and Dr. Dejene Geshe, Director of International and Partnership Affairs, welcomed the collaboration with enthusiasm and a strong commitment to shared progress. Dr. Dinsa noted that the university’s strategic priorities in research, academic excellence, and community service align closely with the visions of both Voorhees University and the EPI Center.

A key supporting role in this partnership is played by Refocus Africa, a pan-African organization incorporated in Tanzania, East Africa. With a mission to identify, develop,

and maximize potential across the continent, Refocus Africa connects opportunities to resources and supports global initiatives through transformative projects in agriculture, clean water, energy, housing, education, sports, training, and business development.

Through this MoU, the institutions are committed to a broad range of collaborative activities, including:

  • Joint academic programs and exchanges

  • Collaborative research and publication

  • Community-based projects and global service learning

  • Professional development for faculty and staff

  • • Innovation in educator preparation

This partnership exemplifies Voorhees University’s continued pursuit of global relationships that are intentional, sustainable, and rooted in shared values. It reflects a comprehensive vision for higher education—one that transcends borders to empower students, faculty, and communities alike.
