Two Voorhees University students, Candence Gray and Jaydon Robinson, recently attended the National HBCU Business Deans Roundtable Student Summit at Deloitte University in Dallas, Texas.
The summit brought together students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the nation for an immersive experience connecting them with representatives from Fortune 500 companies. Through networking opportunities, professional development sessions, and corporate engagement activities, students gained valuable insight into career pathways, workplace expectations, and emerging opportunities in the business world. Participants also had the opportunity to interview for paid summer internships.
The opportunity was made possible through the leadership of Dr. Katherine Whitaker, Dean of the School of Business at Voorhees University and a member of the National HBCU Business Deans Roundtable Board. The summit aligns with one of the Roundtable’s primary goals: preparing HBCU students to successfully compete for careers in business and industry.
“Providing students with direct access to corporate leaders and industry professionals is essential to their professional growth and career readiness,” said Dr. Whitaker. “Experiences like the Student Summit help students build the confidence, connections, and competencies needed to succeed in today’s competitive workforce.”
Gray and Robinson joined peers from HBCUs nationwide to engage with recruiters and executives from leading corporations, expand their professional networks, and explore internship and employment opportunities. Their participation reflects Voorhees University’s commitment to experiential learning and career preparation, ensuring graduates are well-equipped to excel in a global business environment.
By participating in programs such as the National HBCU Business Deans Roundtable Student Summit, Voorhees University continues to create transformative opportunities that prepare students to become the next generation of business leaders.
