Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) offers free tax services

Free Tax Assistance is available again this year through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, managed for the Midlands by The Cooperative Ministry. Families and individuals earning under $63,000 a year can qualify.

Free tax services opened Monday, Jan. 29, 2024, at locations around the Midlands. Operating hours vary, and no appointments are necessary at most sites.

The Cooperative Ministry is a VITA site and is open for drop-offs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Cooperative Ministry will close each day once capacity is reached; capacity is dependent upon the availability of volunteers.

There are three options for tax assistance: In-person drop off and pick up at a VITA tax site, virtual drop off online
