Verses Collections represents a legacy of faith and giving back, a vision innovated by Anderson Glover and brought to life by President Jackie McKenzie and Vice President Dr. Tracey Johnson-Glover. Their unique, high-quality shirts are enhanced with Bible verses and classic white collars, combining timeless fashion with purpose.
During a 30-minute lunch break in 1955, a $4.95 shirt in a store window caught the attention of a young Anderson Glover and his father. Impressed by its unique cuff design and quality fabric, Glover promised to buy it for his father with his next paycheck. That moment in Queens, NY, became the seed of inspiration for what Glover calls “the birthplace of the Verses Collections design.”
“Our shirts are faithinspired, purpose-driven, and designed to last,” McKenzie stated.
The white collar, cuffs, matching tabs, and Bible verses are staples of Verses Collections, differentiating the brand from others. Both McKenzie and Glover highlighted the exceptional craftsmanship and use of top-tier manufacturers, similar to renowned brands, confident that few people own a shirt like this.
“We are truly a highquality brand,” said McKenzie. “We can hang right on in there with the big boys.”
Verses Collections further extends its uniqueness through a mission-driven approach, donating a portion of their proceeds to faithbased organizations.
“Normally when you go to a store and purchase an item, they ask you to donate a dollar or to round up your change, but that’s not what we do. We actually take 10 % of the purchase, and we donate it,” said McKenzie.
Glover and McKenzie come from a family deeply rooted in faith, drawing inspiration from
their sister and aunt, St. Matthews, SC Mayor Helen Carson, and their cousin, Pastor Jerome Anderson in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Starting a faithinspired fashion brand wasn’t without hurdles.
“Translation and transportation were major challenges,” McKenzie admitted. “Another obstacle is that we’re not fashion designers. My dad had a really great idea, and he was innovative enough to get it done.”
Despite these obstacles, they were able to launch their online store and have gained momentum for the past four months.
Looking ahead, Verses Collections aims to donate to more faithbased organizations and lead the way with their products. “Our ultimate goal is to become the leading faith-inspired fashion brand,” McKenzie shared. “If you want to purchase that special gift for your father, brother, pastor, husband, this is the item that they need.”
