Turner Memorial AME Church proudly hosted its first ShowerUp Community Outreach Event on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 1122 Monticello Street in West Columbia, South Carolina.
In partnership with ShowerUp South Carolina, the church provided free showers, laundry services, and personal care resources to individuals experiencing homelessness and others facing difficult circumstances.
The event served approximately 8 individuals, with the support of 6 dedicated volunteers who generously gave their time to make the outreach effort possible. Together, they helped create a welcoming environment where individuals could receive essential services while being treated with dignity, kindness, and compassion.
One of the most touching moments of the day occurred when a woman living with a limb amputation arrived by taxi, seeking personal hygiene items for herself and her son, both of whom are currently experiencing homelessness. Her visit served as a powerful reminder of why community outreach matters.
Turner Memorial AME Church continues to demonstrate its commitment to serving the community by extending its ministry beyond the walls of the church.
“This event was about more than providing showers and laundry services. It was about showing God’s love, restoring dignity, and reminding people that they matter.”
The success of this first ShowerUp Community Outreach Event marked another meaningful step in the church’s mission to serve those in need. Turner Memorial AME Church extends heartfelt appreciation to ShowerUp, its volunteers, and everyone who contributed to making this outreach opportunity possible.
ShowerUp services will be available on the third Thursday of each month.
