This newspaper has always served as an advocate

This newspaper has always served as an advocate for Black-owned businesses. Why? Because our community cannot advance and prosper without a thriving business community. People who don’t own and produce things will always be poor.

August is approaching, and with it comes an opportunity that we as business owners and community members cannot afford to miss. National Black Business Month is more than just a date on the calendar — it is a call to action for all of us to elevate, support, and invest in the businesses that are building the foundation of our future right here in the Midlands.

For nearly four decades, the Carolina Panorama has stood as the voice of the African American community in Columbia and beyond. Our newspaper was founded with a singular vision: to amplify Black excellence and serve as a bridge between Black-owned businesses and the wider community. When I see the resilience and ingenuity of local Black entrepreneurs, I am reminded of why visibility and community support are absolutely vital — not just during August, but all year long.

To our business owners: National Black Business Month is your moment. Take this time to showcase your services, tell your story, and let your community know how they can support you. One proven way to do this is to invest in your visibility right here in the Carolina Panorama. As you advertise with us, you put your message in front of people who care about the success of Black-owned business. Our readers are your neighbors, your customers, and your partners in progress. Let’s make sure they know who you are and how to find you.

During August, we will publish a special section every week to promote Black-owned businesses. Call us at (803) 256-4015 to include your business.

To our readers, friends, and neighbors: Where you spend your dollars has power. Every time you support a Black-owned business, you’re not just buying a product or a service—you’re affirming the value and hard work of someone in your own community. This month, make a commitment to “Buy Black.” Look for the businesses featured in these pages, visit their stores, share your experiences, and encourage your circle to do the same. And pay attention to the businesses that choose to advertise in the Panorama: they are investing in you—return the favor and invest in them.

When we support each other, we all rise. Let’s make August’s National Black Business Month a turning point for economic empowerment in our community. Business owners, call us today and put your business in the spotlight. Readers, make a purchase, leave a review, spread the word—and let’s keep our dollars working where they matter most: right here at home.

Together, we don’t just celebrate Black business. We sustain it, grow it, and pass on a legacy of prosperity for generations to come.
