Several teammates and other SC State graduates gathered for the Homegoing Service for former Bulldog Hall of Fame running back Benjamin “Bennie” Mays Blocker, Sr. on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Leevy’s Funeral Home in Columbia.
Heading the group was Dr. Willis Ham, one of Blocker’s closest friends and teammates. Ham, who made remarks during the service, was also one of five SCSU Hall of Famers (RC Gamble, John Gilliam, Thomas “Jackie’ Kennerly and John Alford) at
the service. The service included a robust and inspiring eulogy by Rev. Redfern II, a longtime Civil Rights activist, and shared stories and tales by Ham, two of Blocker’s children, and others.
