The Columbia Section of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) announces the hosting of the first STEMinesta Academy that will convene on Saturday November 22, 2025 at Jones Memorial AMEZ Church. The Academy was born out of the need to promote interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics among young African American girls. The Steminista Academy has been designed to bridge the gap, foster creativity and provide girls with the skills and knowledge necessary success in the 21st century job market. The aim of this program is to provide engaging and fun ways for the attendees to participate in uniquely creative work, artificial intelligence (AI) field trips and some realworld applications. Emphasis will be placed on helping girls to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they prepare for future careers in the stems arena.

The first session of the Steminista Academy will be held on Saturday November 22, 2025 will be led by Tenita Abraham, a Certified AI Consultant who promises to help the girls step confidently into the future with AI skills that open doors in today’s world.

Loranda Melton, Columbia Branch President of the National Association of University Women has recruited and involved several of the Young University Women, high school age girls in grades 9-12 to participate in the Academy. Melton has also served as President of the Columbia Section of NCNW. She noted that she and Abraham would both love to see a certification program in AI for the attendees.

The Steminista Academy is being funded by a grant award received from the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Westinghouse has an impressive history of providing support to the community.
