State Museum announces Artist Homecoming 2025: Vault to Vision

The South Carolina State Museum is proud to present Artist Homecoming 2025: Vault to Vision, a two-day gathering that begins Thursday, Sept. 25 and concludes Friday, Sept. 26. The program will celebrate South Carolina’s visual arts community and the highly anticipated reopening of the Lipscomb Art Gallery after more than two years of renovations and updates.

“Artist Homecoming 2025: Vault to Vision is more than an event, it’s a reunion for South Carolina’s arts community and a celebration of visual culture and artists from across the state,” said SCSM Chief Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs Paul Matheny. “With this program and the reopening of the Lipscomb Art Gallery, we are welcoming guests to a newly revitalized space and inviting the community to celebrate the people and stories that make South Carolina’s art scene so vibrant and inspiring.”

Activities begin on Thursday, Sept. 25, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. with an evening reception to mark the openings of both the Lipscomb Gallery and the new exhibition, From the Vault: South Carolina Art from the Museum’s Collection, which will featuring works by artists and

craftspeople with South Carolina connections. The exhibition includes recent acquisitions alongside long-time treasures from the museum’s collection, offering a rare look at the depth and diversity of South Carolina’s arts history.

The event continues on Friday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., with ticketed programming designed to engage, inspire and connect artists, curators, arts administrators and art lovers. Attendees will enjoy panel discussions with leading South Carolina artists and cultural leaders, behind-the-scenes tours of the museum’s art storage area, interactive activities, and live performances. Guests will also be invited to see the exhibition When I See Myself, I See…, a collaborative portrait project by artist Natalie Daise, as well the opportunity to explore the new Native Communities in South Carolina display on the museum’s fourth floor.

The reception on Thursday, Sept. 25, is free and open to the public. Tickets for Artist Homecoming programming on Fri., Sept. 26, are $ 10\mathrm { p e r } person and can be purchased online.
