Special guests included Mayor Michael C. Butler…

Special guests included Mayor Michael C. Butler, Councilwoman Latisha Walker, Elizabeth Johnson, representative from the SC Department of Archives & History, and Al Jenkins from U.S. Senator Tim Scott’s office, presented a U.S. flag flown over the Capitol.

Mayor Butler called the project “a milestone and a testament to the power of vision, commitment, and collective effort.”

The project received critical support through grants, including a $31,801 Planning

Grant and a $200,000 Structural Preservation Grant from the SC Department of Archives & History, along with contributions from Midlands Gives, First Citizens Bank Foundation, church members, and loyal supporters. Deacon Wilfred Pace emphasized the vision, citing Habakkuk 2:2: “Write the vision, and make it plain.”

Future plans include:

Phase II: Accessible Reception Hall, Commercial Kitchen, and Food Pantry.

  • Phase III: Great Lawn, drainage improvements, parking, and solar lighting.

The Bull Swamp Colored School Project Directors invite the public to continue supporting this historic preservation effort.
