President Brenda C. Murphy, South Carolina State Conference NAACP shared the following statement in response to Donald Trump posting a video on social media depicting former President and First Lady, Barack and Michelle Obama, as apes is abhorrent, appalling, repulsive, and blatantly racist.
Unfortunately, the crippling poison of racism persist, and the struggle continues. Democracy cannot thrive where power remains unchecked and justice is reserved for a select few. Donald Trump’s racist video is
vehemently racist and will not distract us from his involvement with Jeffery Epstein, his failing economy, the mis-steps with ICE, and so many failures of his administration. The voting constituents are paying attention and will remember this at the ballot box and the mid-term elections.
This abhorrent behavior and incendiary rhetoric of the President of the United States is unacceptable and has no place in a civilized society and cannot be normalized; hence an apology should be rendered immediately!
