This weekend, the South Carolina Democratic Party celebrated the completion of the 9th class of the James E. Clyburn Fellowship. Launched in 2016 by former SCDP Chair Jaime Harrison and named in honor of Congressman Jim Clyburn, the program aims to train the next generation of leaders across the Palmetto State. Graduating Clyburn Fellows now possess a dynamic skill set, preparing them for various roles within the party. Alumni of the program have gone on to serve in the General Assembly, on city and county councils, and in party leadership positions, including party officers and county chairs.
Throughout the program, participants attended four weekend sessions, where they heard from local, state, and national elected officials and party leaders. Instruction topics included party structure, the history of the Democratic Party, campaign tactics, organizing, messaging, and governing.
“Each Clyburn Fellow represents the best and brightest our party has to offer. I’m excited to see how they take what they have learned and experienced through the fellowship and put it into action in their community,” said Jay Parmley, SCDP Executive Director.
The 2024 Clyburn Fellows elected M. Greg Greene from Lexington County and McKenzie Watson from Richland County as Co-Presidents to represent their class in future Democratic Party efforts.
