Each year, local Columbia, SC breast cancer patients are gifted with beautiful wigs, scarves, and other accessories to enable them to continue to feel beautiful during their chemotherapy treatments. These items are selected and freely provided to them individually to lift their confidence, give encouragement and boost their fighting spirit.
The ladies of Beta Epsilon Sigma (BES) Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. spearheads the project as a way of supporting the organization’s women’s wellness initiatives and the Hattie McDaniel Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign.
Soror Theresa C. Muldrow is the BES Chairperson for ‘We Got Wigs’.
BES was grateful to receive additional support from members of the First Nazareth Baptist Church Women’s Working Ministry. The ‘We Got Wigs’ project was selected as one of their quarterly mission endeavors. Sister Pat Green is the First Nazareth Chairperson for the working ministry.
On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, a vast array of items were presented to the staff of Medical Services of America (MSA) Home Health and Hospice; along with a monetary donation from First Nazareth.
BES members making the presentation were Theresa Muldrow, Susan McGriff, Corrie Boyce, Maryfrancis Caldwell, Lula Goodwine, and Tonya Anderson, Chapter Basileus/ President and First Nazareth ministry members included Pat Green, Donna Ashford, Robbie Diamond, and Vivian Dowdy. Demetria Borders received the donations on behalf of the MSA Home Health and Hospice patients.
The women of SGRho and First Nazareth Baptist Church are very excited about the project’s positive impact on the community and are eager to collaborate again next year.
