South Carolina State University’s Garnet & Blue Extravaganza Powered by Prisma Health generated nearly $1.4 million in total support, netting approximately $1.2 million to advance student success and key institutional priorities, university officials announced.

The Saturday, April 18, event brought together alumni, donors and friends of the university for an evening of celebration and giving tied to SC State’s mission and momentum.

Proceeds will have an immediate impact across campus, including:

  • $300,000 in scholarships supporting approximately 225 students at $1,300 each

  • $500,000 for athletics

  • $250,000 for security initiatives

  • $100,000 for the University Priority Fund

  • $50,000 to support the Concert Choir’s trip to Carnegie Hall

SC State President Alexander Conyers said the university is grateful for the overwhelming support and

the tangible difference it will make for students.

“We are deeply thankful to everyone who contributed to the success of the Garnet & Blue Extravaganza,” Conyers said. “This level of support speaks volumes about the belief our alumni, partners and friends have in SC State and in the promise of our students. These resources will open doors, remove barriers and help our students continue to achieve at the highest levels.”

Conyers also praised the students who helped execute the event, noting their professionalism and dedication throughout the evening.

“Our student volunteers represented SC State with excellence,” he said. “Their energy, preparation and attention to detail were truly impressive. They played a critical role in making this event a success, and they demonstrated exactly what makes this university special.”

The Garnet & Blue Extravaganza is a cornerstone fundraising event supporting scholarships and strategic priorities aligned with SC State’s

mission as South Carolina’s only public, historically Black, land-grant university.

The success of this year’s event reflects growing momentum in alumni engagement and philanthropic investment, with a continued focus on expanding opportunities for students and strengthening the institution’s future.

Dr. John M. Lee Jr., vice president for university advancement, credited the university’s leadership for shaping the vision behind the event and its impact.

“I want to especially recognize and thank President Alexander Conyers and First Lady Agatha Conyers for their bold vision and unwavering leadership,” Lee said. “What we witnessed Saturday night was their vision brought to life in a powerful and tangible way. Their commitment to excellence continues to elevate this institution and inspire all of us to think bigger and execute at the highest level.”
