SC State Honors & Awards Convocation held on April 2

South Carolina State University’s annual Honors and Awards Convocation was held Tuesday, April 2, 2024, This occasion was a time to honor students who have distinguished themselves in scholarship and service. Such distinctions are recognized through the attainment of Presidential Pins, academic scholarships and awards.

The keynote speaker was SC State alumnus William Driggers, a rehabilitation counselor.

About William Driggers William A. “Willy” Driggers was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and graduated from Spartanburg High School

Driggers obtained a Bachelor of Social Work degree with a minor in political science from SC State University in 1992. He obtained a master’s degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling services from Auburn University and completed his certification in vision rehabilitation therapy from Mississippi State University.

He retired from the Alabama Department of Vocational Rehabilitation Services for the Blind in 2014 as a vocational rehabilitation counselor and rehabilitation teacher.

Driggers holds his certification as a rehabilitation counselor and works with the Older Independent Blind Program in Houston, Texas.

He is married to Retired Maj. Deloris Driggers, a 1982 graduate of SC State University.
