SC needs to ‘repair a fault’ by investing more in SC State University

By Rep. James E. Clyburn

COMMENTARY I often quote Alexis de Tocqueville, the Frenchman who visited the United States in the 1830s and, in spite of some obvious imperfections in our system, opined, “The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults.”

Given the current fiscal outlook in South Carolina, Gov. Henry McMaster’s economic development successes, a projected $1.6 billion budget surplus and the recent discovery of $1.8 billion in unobligated funds in the state’s coffers, we have a once-in-alifetime opportunity to repair some nagging faults that have existed in our beloved state for far too long.
