Extreme heat can be especially dangerous for senior citizens, individuals with medical conditions, and those without adequate cooling in their homes. The Columbia Police Department is committed to helping ensure that our elderly residents remain safe and comfortable during the summer months.
“Many of our senior citizens live on fixed incomes and may not have access to adequate cooling during periods of extreme heat,” said Columbia Police Department officials.
“Through our Fan the Heat initiative, we want to make sure our elderly residents have the resources they need to stay safe and avoid heat-related emergencies.”
Residents who are elderly and in need of assistance, or those who know someone who could benefit from a fan or air conditioning unit, are encouraged to contact the Columbia Police Department Community Services Unit.
