Keeping Richland One schools safe will be the focus of an upcoming forum that will include representatives of the district and local law enforcement agencies.
The forum, “School Safety: A Shared Responsibility,” will be held Thursday, September 19 from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Dreher High School auditorium (3319 Millwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29205).
“There is nothing more important than doing all we can to protect the safety of our students and staff, and that includes being proactive,” said Richland One Superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon. “School safety is not just the responsibility of schools or school districts. It is a responsibility that is shared by students, staff, parents and community members. We all have a role to play in helping to keep our schools safe.”
Along with Dr. Witherspoon, panelists will include Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott; Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook; Moses Brown, Jr., Richland One’s security and emergency services coordinator; Dr. Candice Coppock, Richland One’s executive director of information technology; and Toni Kelly Campbell, Richland One’s school social work services coordinator.
After safety and security presentations from the panelists, time will be allotted for audience questions.
Students, parents, staff and community members are encouraged to attend. District administrators and law enforcement representatives will be available after the forum to talk with parents and address any specific questions or concerns they may have.
