In an exclusive interview with the Carolina Panorama, Richland County Sheriff candidate Jim Walker outlined his vision for the future of law enforcement in the county. Walker, a father of three, expressed deep concern about the safety of children in the community and emphasized the need for accountability and proactive measures.

Walker is a former Richland County Deputy who worked in the Sheriff’s Department from August 2001 until his retirement in December 2015. He said that he is coming out of retirement because he is concerned about what he says is an inadequate response to the wave of crime and violence sweeping the county.

“I’m running for sheriff because the time has come for a change,” Walker said. “It’s time for that to happen, because of the issues that have not been taken care of,

such as gun violence. We are still having our children dying in the streets of Richland County.”

Walker identified gun violence as the most pressing issue that demands immediate attention. To combat this, Walker proposes a multifaceted approach:
