State Representative Jermaine Johnson (D-Hopkins), in collaboration with the local community advocacy group Gangs in Peace, will travel to 10 counties in South Carolina in May and June of this year. The purpose of this tour is to hold events to politically engage people in counties with the lowest voter turnout and highest crime rates.
These talks will include Rep. Johnson, Gangs in Peace founder Torrean Sims, and local elected officials who will highlight the importance of being involved and changing communities through the political process.
“We are taking our message straight to the people. If we want to make South Carolina a better place, it starts by having conversations like this out in the open. We’re traveling to neighborhoods where people are often overlooked
and we’re going to show them that they have the power to change their communities,” Rep. Johnson said.
The tour will start with a “Kickoff Event” in Richland County on Saturday, May 11 at 6:00pm at Word of God Church, located at 119 Diamond Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
The tentative schedule of the tour is included below. Additional details will be shared prior to the events.
