City Manager Teresa Wilson has announced that the City of Columbia will host a parade in honor of the University of South Carolina Women’s Basketball team’s NCAA National Championship.
The parade will be held on Sunday, April 14 at 2 {: } 0 0 \mathrm { p. m } . starting on the 1700 block of Main Street (corner of Main and Laurel Streets). The City will invite local elected officials, government entities and community partners to join Mayor Daniel Rickenmann, City Council members and USC officials in the parade.
Additional information about parking and street closings will be shared later this week.
2ndAnnual Midlands ‘Black Eats Week 803’ to return Juneteenth Week
Registration now open for a celebration of Black-owned food establishments in the Midlands area, June 17-23
Mark your calendars! The 2nd Annual Black Eats Week 803 will be held on June 17-23, 2024, as part of the Juneteenth celebration week, recognizing the rich culinary heritage of Black-owned restaurants, food trucks, bakeries, creameries, and more in the Midlands area.
Established in 2023, Black Eats Week 803 (BEW803) aims to highlight and support Black entreprneurs in the food industry, providing a platform that creates awareness and allows diners the opportnity to discover new favorites while supporting their local community. The event will feature special menus and promotions at participating businesses, as well as community events and activities.
“We are excited to bring Black Eats Week 803 back to the Midlands area this year to spotlight black-owned food establishments. Last year, over 2,500 people were served at the participating restaurants,” said Khali Gallman, event organizer. “Many of those customers had never patronized those establishments prior to BEW803. That is why this event is so important. It creates
awareness, stimulates the local economy, and most importantly, reveals some great food! Mark your calendars as this year will be bigger and better.”
Registration is now open for businesses to participate. Black Eats Week 803 is open to restaurants, food trucks, bakeries, creameries, and any other food-related businesses owned by Black entreprneurs.
