Change is coming to a globally renowned dining destination on Main Street, but it’s not the ending many might fear.

A Peace of Soul Vegan Kitchen, the beloved plantbased restaurant that has anchored Columbia’s culinary scene for nearly 20 years, announced today that it will

transition from daily operations to a new chapter beginning in March—one that Chef and owner Folami Geter says will honor the restaurant’s legacy while creating space for innovation.

“When people hear ‘closing,’ they think ‘ending,’” Geter said. “But that’s not what this is. This is evolution. After two decades of daily service—first as my father’s Lamb’s Bread, then as A Peace of Soul—I’m exploring what’s next for this space, this brand, and this mission.”

The transition timeline:
• February 4 – March 7, 2026: Open Wednesday-Saturday for Breakfast (7:00 AM – 9:45 AM) and Lunch/Dinner (11:00 AM – 6:00 PM)
• March 14, 21 & 28, 2026: Open last three Saturdays in March for Breakfast (7:00 AM – 9:45 AM) and Lunch/Dinner (11:00 AM – 6:00 PM)
• Beyond March 2026: Details to be released as they become available.

Geter, who has lived her entire life as a vegetarian and celebrated 25 years as a vegan in 2024, purchased Lamb’s Bread Vegan Cafe from her father in 2014. By 2018, she was ready to fully realize her own vision, rebranding as A Peace of Soul and undertaking extensive renovations. During construction, she purchased a food truck and built a devoted following of 25,000+ across the Southeast.

When the renovated space reopened in February 2020—just weeks before the pandemic—A Peace of Soul proved its resilience by pivoting to carryout-only operations and maintaining its commitment to proving that plant-based Southern cuisine could be both comforting and revolutionary.

That adaptability, Geter says, is what’s driving this next transition.

“The restaurant industry has changed dramatically since 2005,” she noted. “The ways people want to experience food, the ways creators want to share food, the ways communities gather around food—it’s all evolving. I want A Peace of Soul to evolve, too.”

While specific plans for the space are still being developed, Geter confirmed she’s exploring several possibilities, including continuing meal prep, event and holiday catering, and more. The building is also available for lease or purchase by operators who share her vision for maintaining the space as a community asset.

“What I know for certain is that A Peace of Soul’s story doesn’t end in March,” Geter said. “The format might change, the schedule might change, but the mission to show people that plant-based eating can be delicious, accessible, and rooted in cultural tradition—that doesn’t change.”

The restaurant’s recognition by Food Network as one of the top 20 vegan restaurants coast-to-coast, along with its consistent national and local acclaim, has positioned A Peace of Soul as a model for what’s possible when culinary excellence meets compassionate food choices.

The kitchen has even remained a true family affair, with Geter’s son, now 24 and raised vegan like his mother, learning the business from the ground up, and her nieces serve as sous chefs.

“We’ve spent years building something special,” Geter reflected. “Now I’m asking: what else is possible? What other ways can we serve this community? What other dreams can we pursue?”

She’s inviting the community to be part of both the celebration and the conversation.

“Visit us in these final weeks of daily service,” she said. “Tell us what A Peace of Soul has meant to you. And if you have ideas for what this space could become, or if you’re someone with a vision for continuing this legacy, reach out.”
