After a pair of clutch wins, the honors

After a pair of clutch wins, the honors came rolling in for the Claflin Lady Panthers as senior guard Nya Morris was named the Food Lion CIAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. She took home the honor after an offensive explosion that led the Lady Panthers to a pair of clutch wins.

The week will go down in history for Morris. On Thursday, she scored a career-high 29 points with four steals to lead the Lady Panthers to a 65-60 win at Livingstone. She followed that effort with 23 points, three steals, and six rebounds to lead the team to a 57-55 win at Winston-Salem State.

Her performance on Thursday was huge for another reason as she scored her 1,000th career point with

the Lady Panthers.

Morris and the Lady Panthers will return to action, Saturday, when they host the Fayetteville State Broncos in the PAWS Up HBCU Classic. The game will be televised

nationally on The Grio.
