owners proudly celebrate first anniversary in senior care business

A Columbia, SC matriarch and intergenerational legacies of daughters and granddaughter recently celebrated their first-year anniversary of providing services at 3 Generations Adult Day Care, LLC for the senior population in NE Columbia, one of the fastest growing demographics in the capitol city.

3 Generations Adult Day Care, LLC is a social model daycare facility for adults that offers group programs of individual and combined group activities and therapies. Their programs provide community-based daycare services for adults who are in need of a supportive setting, thereby preventing unnecessary institutionalization. Further, it affords family caregivers the benefit of taking a muchneeded break to prioritize selfcare and regroup, with a peace of mind, knowing that their loved one is in a safe place, surrounded by friends and professional support. The adult day care also facilitates the opportunity for socialization with peers and the alleviation of the isolation and loneliness often experienced by seniors in the absence of communitybased interventions.

Mary Miller McClellan and her late husband, James D. McClellan, both former Long Island, New York educators, retired to Columbia, Mary’s hometown, some years ago.

Their goal was always to wisely and conservatively preserve their children’s inheritance and believed it was important to leave them with enough to do anything, but not enough to do nothing.

As Mary often says, “If I give my children fish, I feed them for a day; if I teach my children to fish, I feed them for a lifetime.”

To that end, the goal of this matriarch was to provide a lifetime of fishing opportunities for her legacies by providing incentives and opportunities for them to earn a responsible livelihood while retaining the family’s assets, and making an invaluable difference by serving the Columbia community.

Since the careers of Mary’s legacies focused in business and healthcare, she thought it to be prudent to convert their inheritance into a legacy business venture that focused on senior care, where according to projections, the healthcare industry’s needs are projected to increase in the future due to an aging population.

Each member of the 3 Generations Adult Day Care family brings a professional skillset that contributes to the promotion and success of their new business undertaking.

Mary, a former high school teacher and guidance counselor, holds a BS in Education from Benedict College and a MS in Counselor Education from Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY; second generation legacy daughter, Monic holds a BS Degree in Gerontology from Malloy College in Rockville Centre, NY; while daughter, Machele, a seasoned NY health care professional attended Virginia State University and the State University of NY at Old Westbury, respectively; and the third generation legacy granddaughter, Miller is a recent graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in Business Administration.

3 Generations Adult Day Care is located in the former Urgent Care Medical Building at 4214 Hardscrabble Road, Columbia, SC, and is opened 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday-Friday, (803) 888- 0020. Private pay, long term care insurance and Medicaid are among the accepted forms of payment for services.
