Congratulations to Mr. Orlando Samuel, employee of Dorn VA Hospital, who received a Certificate of Appreciation for participating in the 2024 Talent Expo at the Diversified Event sponsored by the Columbia VA Health Care System. He displayed his artistic skill by completing a Black Art Watercolor Portrait while performing a unique dance in a 7-10 minute timeframe.
A native Columbian and 1986 Columbia High School graduate, Samuel attended The University of South Carolina and majored in Art. He furthered his study at the Art Institute of Atlanta in an effort to realize his dream of becoming an artist.
Although Mr. Samuel is currently employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant, he has continued to pursue his passion he acquired in kindergarten. Mr. Samuel has been actively teaching art classes to students and to groups for Art Therapy.
In the past 30 years, he has been painting murals, portraits, pastels, watercolors, graffiti on canvas and paper and acrylic. He has been commissioned to complete several projects in Columbia. One of his murals is located in the basement on the back door of Denny Terrace Community Center.
