“Old Father Adam” Brockinton (1756 – 1854) is buried in RPSFC. His obituary from the Southern Calvary Baptist Church states, “Old Father Adam, servant or the late Richard Brockinton of Darlington is no more. He died in the triumphs of faith on the 25th of September last-aged, it is supposed about 98 years. He fell recently into the kind custody of Major P. B. Bacot, who assiduously attended to his wants and frequently at his own requests read the Scriptures to him. He was the body servant of the elder Mr. Brockinton during the Revolutionary War. He was a member of the Mechanicville Baptist Church where his labors of love were chiefly dispensed, and where his memory will long be cherished by whites and blacks with feelings of uncommon affection, respect and gratitude. This venerable servant of God was permitted in his humble sphere to do much for the cause of virtue and true piety. For 50 odd years he ceased not day and night to instruct, to rebuke, to warn, to entreat his fellow servants in relation to the interests of their souls. In his Christian character he was emphatically steadfast and unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. Peace on earth and good will to man was the absorbing sentiment of his noble soul.
