North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Michael R. Morgan delivered a passionate keynote at the South Carolina NAACP State Convention’s annual dinner, urging attendees to meet the challenges of “turbulent times” with bold action, unshakable resolve, and solidarity.
This year’s convention was held in Camden, SC at the Wooland Technology Center from October 9-11, 2025. Judge Morgan’s speech was given during the Convention’s banquet, held on Saturday evening.
Speaking to a packed ballroom of community leaders, elected officials, faith leaders, and members of the Divine Nine, Morgan praised the NAACP as “the most feared and most revered civil rights organization anywhere around,” reminding the audience that its mission is “to protect and promote justice” for all.

“Everyone is entitled to fairness. Everyone is entitled to equality,” Morgan said. “The people of South Carolina deserve it. The people of the United States demand it.” Thriving Amid Political and Social Turbulence
This year’s convention theme — “Thriving in Turbulent Times” — framed Morgan’s address as both a rallying cry and a challenge. He openly
questioned how communities can move beyond simply surviving in a divided nation marked by racism, intolerance, and political polarization.
“These times are unsettled, unrelenting, and unapologetic,” he said. “Racism is raging. Hate is heightening. Intolerance is intensifying.”
