The Columbia Branch was elated to welcome the students of Allen University during the February Meeting to celebrate the heritage of African Americans in songs. The Choral Ensemble directed by Dr. Angela Blalock comported themselves in a poised and professional manner last Monday evening at First Calvary Baptist Church in Columbia. The students rendered a stellar performance as they melodiously sang hymns, spirituals and contemporary gospel selections to commemorate our history.
President Loranda Melton commended Dr. Blalock and the entire staff of the Allen University Music Department for the magnificent performance of the students. President Melton followed up with a letter of appreciation to the President of the College, Dr. Ernest McNealey.
After the mini concert, the members of the Branch adorned in their African Garb demonstrated radical hospitality as they greeted and met briefly with the students and the musicians. The hospitality continued as the members of the Branch led by Marlene McClerklin, the February Hostesses and Doretha Thompson provided catered/home-cooked meals and snacks for the students to take back to the campus.
