The Columbia Branch of
NAUW has served the Midlands since 1934 and has consistently tried to stimulate and coordinate educational activities that make positive impacts upon the Columbia community and surrounding areas. In 1976, the Columbia Branch extended its influence by organizing a high school girls’ club called the Young University Women (YUW) that would reach out to young girls and
inspire them to continue their education by attending college. Over the last 47 years, the Columbia Branch has awarded hundreds of graduating seniors with scholarships and stipends. According to President Melton, “This generous award from Westinghouse will help us to continue our legacy of service to the youth and the disadvantaged in our communities”.
