Richland School District Two is pleased to announce the appointment of Melanie Cleare Williams as the new principal of Muller Road Middle School.
Williams brings more than 25 years of experience in education, including instructional leadership, school administration, student support services and classroom instruction. She currently serves at Dent Middle School, where she has spent the past six years as a seventh-grade assistant principal and assistant principal of instruction.
“Mrs. Williams is a dedicated, student-centered leader with a strong record of supporting teachers, building meaningful relationships and using data to improve student outcomes,” said Superintendent Dr. Kim D. Moore. “Her experience in leadership, instructional coaching and school improvement will serve the Muller Road Middle School community well. We are excited to welcome her to this important role.”
At Dent Middle School, Williams has led data analysis and instructional-improvement efforts; coordinated teacher evaluations, observations and instructional coaching; supported curriculum alignment and standards implementation; and facilitated professional learning communities. Prior to joining Dent, Williams served as an assistant administrator at Richland Northeast High School from 2013 to 2019
Williams also served as an education associate in the South Carolina Department of Education’s Office of School Transformation, where she conducted classroom observations and school-monitoring visits, provided technical assistance and professional development to district and school leaders, and supported continuous-improvement planning.
Her career in education began in Richland School District One, where she served for more than a decade at Eau Claire High School as an English teacher, English department chair, High Schools That Work site coordinator and administrative team member. During her time in the classroom, she helped students achieve a 90 percent HSAP passage rate in English among first-time testers and led efforts to strengthen literacy, college and career readiness, differentiated instruction and the use of technology in teaching and learning.
Williams holds an Education Specialist degree in Instructional Leadership and a Master of Education from Cambridge College, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of South Carolina. She also completed the South Carolina Department of Education’s Instructional Leadership Academy and Richland Two’s Assistant Principal Institute in 2023.
