Morris College is proud to announce that 130 student scholars recently received a total of one hundred forty-eight thousand six hundred and fifteen dollars ($148,615) in institutional scholarships for this year. Funds included a combination of endowed scholarships, annual scholarships along with merit-based and need-based aid.
This tremendous amount of funding reveals Morris College’s significant commitment and contribution to providing the necessary funds to make higher education accessible for students.
“Due to concentrated effort of our Financial Aid Office, we are excited to match deserving students with scholarship opportunities,” said Financial Aid Counselor, Mrs. Tiffany McGhee.
It is Morris College’s priority to increase student access to scholarships, and each year we seek to assist students with priority funding for their education. Students from rural and small-community low-income households need more access to funds, particularly with the recent federal changes with PELL, PLUS and other subsidized and unsubsidized funds.
Many of the funds disseminated during the year come from a combination of federal and state sources including grants, scholarships, work study, and student loans. Additional individual, alumni, corporate, and foundation scholarship options help narrow the financial gap for students. While each student deserves an opportunity for an education, some who may apply may not qualify for some scholarships, but these funds assure students that a Morris College education is within reach.
Morris College aids in alleviating student financial needs and softens the impact by providing holistic support to nurture student success. Philanthropic support of Morris College alumni, the Board of Trustees, the undergirding of ownership and support of the Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina, significant partnerships with the United Negro College Fund, the William Bryce Foundation, the James Wilson Foundation, corporations, other foundational partners, and individual givers make the significant difference.
These individuals and entities understand the unique mission of Morris College to prepare young adults who contribute to the viability of our communities, our state, our nation, and equip them for lives and livelihoods that impact society.
