The annual Lower Richland Sweet Potato Festival is Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 11am to 6pm in the Lower Richland Community at Hopkins Park, Hopkins SC. For over 4 0 + years the Lower Richland Sweet Potato Festival has had a very positive impact in the community. Year after year the festival continues to grow. The festival now hosts people from all around our state of South Carolina and also festival-goers from Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and Texas. We have been honored with visitors from Ghana where the “Yam” originated. The Festival highlights the “Sweet Potato” – with special highlights on the popular “Sweet Potato Ice Cream”, and the “Sweet Potato Pie Eating Contest”.
The festival has hosted over 8 {, } 0 0 0 { + } people and features local talent from across the state as well as national recording artists. What began as a small community get together has become a major State event with fun for the entire family. The Festival has events for all ages: kids zone, face painting, game truck, live music, food, games and much
more. The Lower Richland Sweet Potato Festival also brings awareness to health issues and has offered free screenings for vision, prostate, breast exams, HIV, etc. This year’s Health Fair will include Blood Pressure Screening, Dental Screening, Vision Screening, HIV & Hepatitis Screening, Glucose Testing and more! The Festival highlights voting registration as well as a time for lawmakers to speak with constituents in a relaxed environment.
Along with the efforts of
committed community members, the Festival is largely funded through a grant from the Richland County Hospitality Tax Grant. We are encouraging the community to come out and enjoy this free community event with free parking.
