For the second year in a row, Lower Richland High School’s Army JROTC drill team won first place overall in the Fourth Brigade Regional Armed Drill Competition. The team competed against schools from Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., North Carolina and South Carolina in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on February 8.
The drill team has also
qualified for the National High School Drill Team Championship for the fourth consecutive year. The cadets are set to compete in Daytona Beach, Florida in May.
“I am super proud of this young group. Their commitment to excellence, after losing so many team members from last year’s regional champs, made this year’s win feel incredible. I feel like
they did the impossible,” said JROTC drill team coach Sgt. First Class Tracy Vaulx.
The drill team has placed first overall in four other competitions this school year, including the Northwest State Qualifier, the Midlands Drill Championship Competition, the Palmetto State Drill Championship and Richland One’s annual drill competition.
