I needed a long-awaited escape—just a day or two to unwind. November was the perfect time to visit Myrtle Beach; you practically have the town to yourself. We drove up from Columbia, heading to The Ellie Resort for the weekend. We felt like young folks again with no rigid plans, just a road trip for fun and relaxation.

As we pulled into the parking lot that Friday afternoon, we said, “Oh yes! Here she is. The Ellie.” The concierge greeted us warmly and directed us to parking and guest services.

The first thing that caught my attention was the lounge and the Ocean Blue Restaurant. After taking in the beautiful surroundings, I continued to guest services for check-in. I was quite impressed with the seamless experience. Armed with directions and a map, we headed to our room to drop off our luggage.

This was the difficult part. After the drive from Columbia, I knew it would be tempting to just take a nap, but I didn’t want to miss any of the

fun during our stay. So I set the alarm for a brief siesta before we began exploring the resort.

We decided to start with an evening stroll along the Springmaid Pier. The weather, which had been calling for cold and rain, surprisingly turned warmer and more pleasant. As guests of The Ellie, we had access to the long pier and two pools—one indoor and one outdoor. Not wanting to take a minute for granted, we

stopped at the Southern Tide Bar and Grill to check it out. It was pleasant and we got there just in time to catch the sunset

The next morning, we awoke refreshed. We ventured off the resort for breakfast, then returned to take a walk along the pier, walking past families and fishermen enjoying their morning. Later, we went back to dine and watch the game at the Southern Tide Bar and Grill’s lounge.
