Some storms change the weather. Others change your life. LOCKED IN: THE STORM is a suspenseful, heartfelt, and entertaining coming-of-age drama that explores what can happen when young people are pushed into circumstances that force them to confront themselves and one another.

November 13–15, WOW Studio One and Destined 2 WOW Foundation will bring LOCKED IN: THE STORM, a powerful new stage production exploring the challenges facing today’s teens, to Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College. Co-Directed by award-winning playwright Tangie Brickhouse-Beaty and Hollywood actor and acting coach Dennis L.A. White (Notorious, The Family Business, etc), this suspense-filled coming-of-age drama will take audiences on an emotional journey of secrets, unexpected twists, laughter, and truths that hit close to home. This production invites audiences to look beyond the surface and confront the challenges, pressures, and realities facing today’s young people.
The story unfolds when a powerful storm traps a group of teenagers and several adult staff members inside their high school as they plan to hold an event to help the school’s doors stay open. With no phones, no social media, and no way to escape, the group is left to navigate mounting tensions, unexpected revelations, and truths that have long been hidden. As rivalries erupt and friendships are tested, the storm outside becomes only part of the chaos unfolding within.

While the production delivers suspense, unexpected twists, and laugh-out-loud moments, its message reaches beyond the stage. LOCKED IN: THE STORM brings attention to issues that affect young people every day, including mental health, bullying and cyberbullying, school absenteeism, grief, family challenges, peer pressure, social expectations, and the struggle to feel seen, heard, and understood.
The production also creates an opportunity for parents, educators, community leaders, and young people to engage in conversations about the pressures teens carry and the support they need. Through its characters and their experiences, the story challenges audiences to consider how often the struggles young people face go unnoticed—and what can happen when those struggles are finally brought into the open.
“Some storms are happening right in front of our eyes, while others are happening inside the people we see everyday,” is the central idea behind this timely production. LOCKED IN: THE STORM encourages audiences to look closer, listen more intentionally, and recognize that sometimes being truly seen is the bravest storm anyone can face.
Community members, businesses and organizations can also participate in the Unlock A Seat campaign, which gives area youth who may not be able to afford a ticket the opportunity to attend. Sponsored tickets will help provide young people from schools, churches, youth organizations, and community programs access to the production.
You may never know which scene they needed to see. But your support can help make sure they’re in the room to see it. Please consider donating to this campaign. We don’t want cost to be the reason any youth misses this experience.
