Local language professor Dr. Reginald A. Bess to lecture in Mexico City

Dr. Reginald A. Bess, former President of the Southeastern Council of Latin American Studies, has been invited to lecture at an annual convention. He will lecture on Afro-Hispanic Literature at the convention to be held April 24-26, 2025 in Mexico City, Mexico.

Also, Dr. Bess is the recipient of the “Distinguished Service Award” by the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages for his 50+ years of advocacy for the study of world Languages for African American and other students of color.

Additionally, Dr. Bess has received the Dr. Leonard Slade Award for Poetry from the Southern Conference on African American Studies for his publications in the organization’s journal “The Griot.”

Lastly, Dr. Bess has been featured in the “Spotlight Division” on the website of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese for his publications and presentations on Afro-Hispanic Literature(in Georgetown, Guyana; Cartagena, Colombia; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Oaxaca, Mexico).
