Mr. Nakia West, Sr. and Dr. Shiquita West attended the 2024 King Day at the Dome March & Rally. The couple said it was a moving experience.
“The VP’s speech was very inspiring,” said Dr. West. “Dr. King would be elated to see our first Black female United States Vice President speaking on the federal holiday named in his honor. I was proud to hear VP Kamala Harris acknowledge the powerful leaders in our state — Congressman Clyburn and Senator Devine.
VP Harris started her speech with a very profound question which was “if Dr. King were here today, he would ask ‘Where exactly are we in our fight for freedom? How we doing?’ She answered with, ‘Freedom is under profound threat.’ The goal of America is freedom! Her speech made me reflect on how I am helping in the fight for freedom as I sow into future generations so that freedom will continue to ring! Our work as a people is not over. We must march and fight on!”
