I DeQuincey Newman UMC celebrates the goodness of God

A blessing is a blessing no matter when it occurs! Recently during Laity Sunday at ID Newman UMC, five pillars of the community were honored and what a celebration it was.

The honorees received recognition for their unwavering commitment to the community at large. Rev. Frank James, Pastor, bestowed the Spirit of an Activists Medallion on each of these candidates. This medallion was created to honor the Legacy of the Founder of I DeQuincey Newman UMC Church, the Reverend Isaiah DeQuincey Newman. Recipients of this prestigious award are Mr. Harrison Rearden, Mrs. Barbara Roach, Mr. Willis & Mrs. Clara Langley, and representing Former SC State Senator John L. Scott, Jr. (Mrs. Joan Scott, wife). These individuals are no strangers to the community. Their accomplishments and ongoing efforts speak highly of them, and the enduring influence they have had, and will continue to have on the community.

The church was recently blessed by the presentation of the South Carolina Judge, Clifton B. Newman, a devoted church member and public official of the State of South Carolina; followed by Josephine McRant, Certified Lay Servant. We are proud of the blessings and the wisdom God has bestowed upon them. God chooses individuals from all walks of life to serve His purpose. We are not all called to preach, but we are all called to serve mankind in some form of service. The United Methodist Church acknowledged those who aren’t pastors or ministers but have a willingness to serve and work hard daily to fulfill the mission of our church congregation.

The United Methodist Church instituted a Sunday to honor the laity’s contributions. Today, we highlight a few of the laity who have consistently served our community and our State without seeking recognition for their work. These individuals are merely obedient servants of humanity who have answered the call to serve wherever they find themselves.

Today, the question is: How many of us are willing to heed the call to serve mankind?
