Columbia resident James Myers graduates from the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) in Spartanburg, receiving the DAR Good Citizenship award and the Residential Life Services Student of the Year award.

James balanced school with two jobs—one in maintenance and the other at Chickfil-A—and also took on the role of manager for the football and basketball teams, earning himself the nickname “Coach.” His most cherished memory is the hard work he put in to reach his goal of graduating.

The South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind is the state’s specialized school for students who are deaf or blind. It offers preK-12 educational programs on its main campus in Spartanburg and specialized vision and hearing services in school districts and homes throughout the state. Visit www.scsdb.org for more information.
