I. DeQuincey Newman hosted The Columbia District Quarterly Clergy Meeting

The quarterly meeting of the Columbia District Clergies took place at the Historic I. DeQuincey Newman United Methodist Church, located at 7801 Wilson Blvd., Tuesday, February 11, 2025. The meeting was facilitated by Rev. Fran Elrod, the District Superintendent, while Rev. Frank V. James, the Church Pastor, extended a warm welcome to all attendees and expressed his hope that they would have a pleasant experience.

The membership is privileged to have the chance to act as the host for the meeting. The clergy appreciated a selection of genuine Southern quiche dishes, crafted by one of the church’s young entrepreneurial members, accompanied by an assortment of traditional seasonal fresh fruits.

The pastor expressed in his address that it is a privilege to host individuals from diverse communities within our facilities. We take great

pride in our commitment to serving others. We were particularly delighted to receive our sister churches from throughout the district in celebration of Black History Month.

This occasion allowed us to present several lesserknown aspects of our church’s history. Our church was established by Rev. Dr. Isaiah DeQuincey Newman, an influential preacher who rose from

modest origins and dedicated many years to serving the community, the United Methodist Church, and the State of South Carolina, including roles as a Senator and Field Director of the NAACP. It is, as always, a privilege to serve others. We welcome all to our open doors. Rev. Frank V. James, Pastor. Sunday School services commence at 9 am, followed by the morning service at 10 am.
