I. DeQuincey Newman United Methodist Church celebrated Women’s Day 2024

The I DeQuincey Newman United Methodist Church, Women of Faith Ministry held its annual Women’s Day in conjunction with the United Methodist Church Women in the Pulpit Sunday on March 17, 2024. This year’s theme was “Food, Faith and Fellowship: As We Celebrate Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion”.

The guest speaker for the occasion was Mrs. Janelle Sistrunk Mitchell, a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church – North Road in Orangeburg, SC. Her message was entitled “Food that Changes Lives” based on the scripture from John 4: 27-34 and Ecclesiastics 9:7.

Mrs. Cheryl Miller. wa honored as Woman of the Year. She serves in various ministries at I D Newman UMC. she was reconized for her fruits of the spirit traits such as humility, honesty, passion, joy and hospitality when serving others. She is a woman of God who gives her service and talents in a Christian spirit that display her faith.

Also, part of the annual tradition is recognizing the recipients of

the Gertrude Dial Scholarship. The recipients are high school seniors that will be attending college in the fall. This year, there were four students from WJ Keenan High School: Kaedin Davenport, Jaire Gray, Felicity Samuel,

and Bryce Wilson.

A moment of remembrance was held in honor of Mrs. Ora Blackwell, former and longtime Chairperson of Commission on the Status and Role of Women (COSROW), by current chairperson, Mrs. Corrie Boyce. Mrs. Blackwell was a loving mother of the church, and she will be remembered for being a loving servant who loved – people, helping others and reminded her church family the importance of embracing young families and young people to come to church. I DeQuincey Newman UMC and the Women of Faith will continue her legacy by upholding the causes she championed.
