Hopkins Middle School eighth-grade student Cayden Covington has been named the first recipient of the Music in Our Schools (MIOS) Musicianship and Excellence Award, presented by local musician and actor Samuel “Sam” McWhite.
Cayden was selected based on his talent and dedication to playing the cello, his passion for music overall and his accomplishments in and outside the classroom.
“I’m very excited that I was chosen for this award. I really like music, and I especially like playing the cello. It’s a true honor that I’ve been selected,” Cayden said.
In addition to the award, Cayden will get to perform in McWhite’s Luther Vandross Tribute Show at The Pastor’s Study (1633 Main Street Suite 100, Columbia, SC 29201) March 1 at 6 p.m. Click here to purchase tickets.
Proceeds from the ticket sales will go to a scholarship for Cayden.
