Historic Columbia and Columbia Green collaborate to tackle community issues

Historic Columbia and Columbia Green have collaborated to address issues, offer solutions and share information about historically marginal communities that have survived. The communities represented are listed at columbiacanopyproject. org. The project is funded by Coastal Community Foundation of SC.

Historic Columbia has at least three plans in place to attack some of the issues. The plans include researching the history of the community, planting memorial trees to provide shaded areas, and honoring community leaders who have worked tirelessly in

spite of the hurdles.

Eleven trees were planted at Antioch Baptist Church’s Community Park and Walking Trail on May 10th to honor 5 Community Leaders, Prescott Manor and Ames Villas. The celebration was attended by members of the North Columbia Business Association (NOMA), representatives of Historic Columbia, Columbia Green, friends and family members of the honorees and Antioch Baptist Church officials.

Honorees include Ms. Sharon Mills Pinckney, Mrs. Edna Samuel, Mrs. Audrey Brown, Mrs. Marian B. Tucker and Mr. Robert Seawright.
