Lanier Lebby Alston, a family and consumer sciences teacher at Hand Middle School, was named the 2025 South Carolina Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (SCAFCS) Teacher of the Year.
The award recognizes a K-12 family and consumer sciences teacher who has helped improve the quality of family life, identified exemplary educational programs and activities that have motivated other educations and built community awareness of family and consumer sciences education.
Alston was named the recipient during the SCAFCS 2025 conference in Greenville February 19.
“I am still in a daze. I’m humbled because everything I have accomplished with my students, are things that I would have taught my children if I would have been blessed with them,” said Alston. “This award means that my journey is not complete, and I must continue educating, advocating and nurturing my students and the community.”
Alston will represent South Carolina during the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences annual conference in 2026.
