Greater Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church located at 662 Old Wire Road, West Columbia, South Carolina celebrated the unveiling of a historical marker on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Bishop Samuel L. Green, Sr. was the guest speaker.

Tradition holds that the congregants of Saint Paul Church organized in the 1870’s and originally worshipped under a brush arbor. By 1884, the members purchased a ½-acre lot for $ 300 and built a church. In 1962, members acquired the current site for a new church building and completed construction in the 1970’s. Saint Paul, founded as a Methodist congregation, later joined the African Methodist Episcopal Church. In the 1980’s the church adopted the name “Greater” Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church. We celebrated 151 years of existence in October 2023.
