Graduates of Lakeview, Brookland-Cayce and Airport High Schools are sought
The Greater Lakeview Alumni Association (GLAA) endeavors to preserve the legacy and history of the Lakeview School. The site of the school was designated as both a national and state historical landmark. The property has been repurposed and is now known as the Brookland-Lakeview Empowerment Center (BLEC).
The GLAA is sponsoring a Lakeview Round Up of all attendees and graduates of Lakeview High, Brookland Cayce High, and Airport High schools on, May 17, 2025, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the BLEC, 1218 Bachelor Street, West Columbia, SC in the Bogan Hall. This is a time to reflect, fellowship, and reconnect with classmates as well as learn how one may become involved in supporting and preserving the historical legacy of Lakeview.
The Lakeview School Museum chronicles the path toward equal education in South Carolina through the preservation of the struggles, memories, and successes. It offers a platform where diverse voices and cultures of the many African American communities can be heard and realized.
The museum is in the developmental stage and funds are being solicited through grants, foundations, and private donations. The concept design has been completed, and the estimated cost to complete the museum is approximately one million dollars.
The plans will include exhibit bookcases, a history wall, then and now media interactive display, alumni testimonial exhibit, and more. We seek to preserve the rich history and legacy of the former Lakeview School and the communities that it served.

The Omicron Iota Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. will host its 2025 Alpha Beautillion, the culminating event of the Alpha Academy mentorship program. The event will recognize African American high school juniors and seniors— known as beaux—who have completed a yearlong series of workshops, community service, and cultural enrichment activities. Scholarships and awards will be presented during the program. The event will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 4 p.m. at the TMPC Banquet & Conference Center, located at 201 Columbia Mall Blvd. Columbia, S.C.
The Alpha Academy, founded in 2004, supports young men in the Columbia area through leadership development, college and career preparation, public speaking, etiquette, and health education in partnership with Project Alpha. The Beautillion includes recognition of participant achievements, a symbolic presentation of the Mantle of Manhood, and a closing fraternity tradition. Each beau has actively raised funds to support scholarships and future programming. Senior beaux recently competed in the Dr. Alfred F. Young Oratorical Contest.
